3 zone cymbal support, Yamaha style. How many of you need it

3 zone cymbals, Yamaha style. Do you want me to add support for them in MegaDrum?

I have both MegaDrum and Yamaha cymbals, please do it.

I have Yamaha cymbal. Lack of Yamaha 3 zone cymbals support is a showstopper for building MegaDrum.

I have MegaDrum. If you do it, I'll buy 3 zone cymbals Yamaha style.

I have MegaDrum. I'll live happily without support for such cymbals.

If you do it, I will rebuild all my DIY cymbals to have the Yamaha 3zone design.

I have neither of them, only 2 (3 at most) persons have MegaDrum, your poll is stupid.

Ok, doing that (increasing till I get aftertouch when grabbing it) I get this:
bow hit = bow note
bell hit = bell note
edge hit = edge note followed by a low-velocity bow note, and some times followed by a bell note

Depending of the strength of the hit on the edge (or on the bell) I get only one note or both edge and switch notes

You need to play around with all other settings on the RideB/RideE starting with setting Threshold for RideB mush higher, say 80.

Hi dimitri, I have tested both trizone features. THis is what I got:

Common Settings:
InputB Gain 4
InputB DynLvel 1
InputB DynTime 64
InputB Xtalk 0

Yamaha trizone feature:
InputB Threshold 20
InputE Threshold 55
InputE BThreshold 18

I was able to get the three zones. Bell was quite easy to get. Good response. I found difficult to find a correct value of Edge Threshold. Higher value made my bow hits become an edge sound. If I lowered edge threshold it was more difficult to get an edge sound on an edge hit. 55 seems to be an optimal value for me. Here is a video test:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZDn4CMxPw0
Bugs I found:
With these setting triggering was good, but aftertouch messages weren't sent. Strange... In MIDIOX I didn`t see any afterouch message coming from megadrum

Roland 3way feature:
Input1 type "3way"
Input1B Threshold 20
Input1E Threshold 20
Input1E BThreshold 18
Input1E BNote (same as Edge note)
Input2B Threshold 20
Input2E Threshold 20
Input2E BThreshold 18
Input2E BNote (same as Edge note)

I was able get perfectlythe three zones. This is the video I made:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy2xj5mysts
Bugs I found:
As you can see in the video, I can choke the bell and the bow sound (bell was the one connected to input 2). I wasn't able to choke the edge sound (switch connected to input 1, the one with 3way option). After seing midi data in midiox I found that when 3way is enabled, megadrum does not send aftertouch messages for all the possible notes in the pair of inputs. It only sends choke notes for input2B and input2E.

Are you sure that in Roland style cymbals the bow and the edge go together into the first input and the bell into the second?
From what I've found about these cymbals the bow and the bell go together into the first input and the edge into the second. According to this, and this is what I implemented, the choke is made on the second input.

Well, you are right, the bow/bell input is the first connected and the bow/edge is the second. But, anyway, when you choke a cymbal you should be able to stop the three sounds (bow, bell and edge) and it would be better to send the 3 aftertouch messages.

Another thing is that I also have found that I had to set BNote equal to the edge and bell notes of each input in order to trigger correctly the sound with all kind of strength hits (Input1E note=52, BNote=52; Input2E note=51 and BNote=51) Setting BThreshold to 0 was useless, the BNote triggered some times, so the solution was that, to set the same note for both.

Do you already know why is it that aftertouch is not sent at all with the yamaha 3way config?

Try this version:

I intentionally do not mention what I changed.

You can use 3way HiHat. The only problem with 3way HiHat at the moment is that it will only trigger 'Open' notes for a bell.

Now the yamaha works awesome!! the aftertouch messages are sent, and the separation between zones seems better than before

How did you do that?

PD: Call it placebo effect but now I like my ride more than with the td12 hehehehe
